“I would recommend Leicester College as it’s inclusive and open to everyone. If you’re into sports, the Sport and Fitness course is worth considering as it gives you a broad base of knowledge about training and the sector.”

Shooting for the top in physical training

Sam Geden grew up in a sports family, with a brother who played football for Arsenal’s Academy, another brother playing rugby and a football-mad dad.

This background made it an easy choice for him to get into sports as a possible future career and to help him to get there, he chose to join the Level 3 BTEC Sport and Fitness course at Leicester College.

Building on a passion for sport

Sam says: “With my family’s interest in sport and my own love of football, it was always on the cards that I would end up wanting to work in the sports sector.

“I chose Leicester College because it's a good college and I met some of the teachers before I enrolled, who talked to me about the course.

“I completed a Level 2 course so was able to make an easy transition to the next level, but it’s also been really intriguing, learning new things including self-employment and business models. I’ve particularly enjoyed the team building elements and gym lessons, and the quality of teaching is great.”

Pathway to a career in physical training

Sam continues: “The course provides a diverse qualification, but my own personal aspiration is to use these skills to become a personal trainer for a gym, with a view to starting my own gym someday and becoming self-employed.

“I’m committed to staying physically fit, keeping my clients fit and helping them to improve. After the course finishes, I’ll be looking for employment and might already have a job lined up.

“I would recommend Leicester College as it’s inclusive and open to everyone. If you’re into sports, the Sport and Fitness course is worth considering as it gives you a broad base of knowledge about training and the sector.”
